Contribution de John Stuart Mill à la Flore du Vaucluse

Résumé
Cette note présente la relation de J. S. Mill avec la France, depuis son premier séjour en 1820 durant lequel il acheva son système éducatif particulier, et sa résidence finale en Avignon en 1859. Sa grande passion pour la botanique l’a encouragé, avec son ami Jean Henri Fabre, à écrire une flore du Vaucluse qu’il ne réussit pas à terminer à cause de sa mort subite. Mill récolta une grande quantité de plantes tout au long de sa vie, non seulement dans son pays natal, l’Angleterre, mais aussi dans d’autres pays comme l’Italie, l’Espagne, la Grèce, la Turquie et, spécialement, la France. La liste de la collection des plantes récoltées par Mill dans le département du Vaucluse est donnée. Ces plantes sont conservées au Musée Requien d’Avignon.

Abstract
In this study it’s exposed the relation between John Stuart Mill and France since his first stay in 1820 that culminated its special educational system and its final residence in Avignon in 1859. His passion for botany encouraged him with his friend Jean Henri Fabre to write a Flora of Vaucluse that he never finished because of his sudden death. Mill collected a large number of plants throughout their life, not only of his native England, but also from other countries like Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey and, specially, France. It is presented a list of his collection of plants which are related to the Vaucluse Department and preserved in the Museum Requien of Avignon, although in this Institution there are also plants of other French Departments.

Architecture inflorescentielle de quelques Myosotis d’Europe occidentale

Résumé
Les difficultés de détermination de la plupart des Myosotis nous ont poussée à étudier leur architecture afin de compléter certains caractères de Flores portant généralement sur les fleurs et souvent délicats d’utilisation. Ces indications architecturales utilisent des moyennes de mesures faites sur une à plusieurs populations et permettent de comprendre les stratégies d’adaptations de ces espèces. L’ analyse met en évidence un premier groupe d’annuelles à axe court et cymes feuillées, un second groupe d’annuelles plus grandes où les cymes dénudées permettent des soudures de pédicelles et d’axes et un groupe de pérennes où l’inflorescence composée peut s’enrichir de cymes nues supplémentaires. L’apparente orthogénie vers une inflorescence élaborée, par suppression de feuilles et soudures d’axes, est discutée. Enfin un quatrième groupe à fleurs jaunes et pollen en ballon mime l’architecture des deux groupes d’annuelles à fleurs bleues. Les trois premiers groupes appartiennent à la section Myosotis à petits pollens à étranglement médian, le quatrième à la section Exarrhena à gros pollens sphériques dont certains représentants ont colonisé le monde austral.

Abstract
Difficulties in identifying most of the Myosotis species have led us to add the various architectures of plants to the defining characters of flowers in Floras, often difficult in their use. These architectural indications use average measurements taken from one or several populations, and allow us to understand the adaptative strategies of the species. Analysis shows a first group of annual species with a short axis and leafy cymes, a second group of larger annuals, with ebracteate cymes, allowing some unions of pedicels and axis, a third group of perennial plants including supplementary bare cymes in the inflorescence. The apparent trend towards a complex inflorescence accompanied by suppression of leaves and unions of axes is discussed. Finally a fourth annual group with yellow flowers and spherical pollen mirrors the architecture of the two groups of blueflowered annuals. The first three groups belong to the section Myosotis with small pollens constricted at the equatorial region, and the fourth belongs to the section Exarrhena with large spherical pollen, of which some ones have colonised the Southern hemisphere.

Découverte de Rhynchocorys elephas (L.) Griseb. dans l’Akfadou (Grande Kabylie, Algérie) : première mention pour l’Afrique du Nord

Résumé
Cet article fait état de la découverte dans le massif de l’Akfadou (Grande Kabylie, Algérie) de Rhynchocorys elephas (L.) Griseb. signalé pour la première fois en Afrique du Nord. Après une brève présentation du site et quelques éléments sur l’écologie de la station, l’article esquisse à l’aide d’un tableau synoptique sommaire les liens dynamiques entre la communauté qui héberge Rhynchocorys elephas et les groupements adjacents dont dépend le maintien de la population de cette espèce. Compte tenu de l’effectif très réduit de cette population relictuelle, cette espèce est proposée pour figurer parmi les espèces en danger critique d’extinction en Algérie.

Abstract
This is the first report from North Africa of Rhynchocorys elephas (L.) Griseb. discovered in the forested mountains of Akfadou (Great Kabylia, Algeria). The locality and ecological conditions are briefly described. The dynamic relations between the Rhynchocorys elephas phytocoenosis and neighboring plant communities sustaining its survival are displayed in a synoptic table. Considering the extremely reduced relictual population, the authors propose to assign in Algeria to this species the conservation status: “critically endangered”.

Additions to the knowledge of the distribution of Vitex agnus-castus L. in Corsica

Cet article complète une étude précédente et décrit de nouvelles localisations de Vitex agnus-castus en Corse : (1) trois ensembles de stations dans trois vallées de la côte orientale du Cap Corse (ruisseaux de Meria, de Misinco et de Pietracorbara) (2) trois très petits peuplements (pointe du Cap Corse, Lavasina et sud de Bastia) et (3) douze stations minuscules, dispersées sur le reste du littoral (Tabl 1 ; Fig. 1 à 12). Des relevés phytosociologiques ont été effectués dans les peuplements les plus importants (Tabl. 2 à 5, 8 et 9). La répartition générale de Vitex agnus-castus en Corse est indiquée sur une carte en réseau à petite échelle (Fig. 13).

Abstract
This paper complements a previous study and described new locations of Vitex agnus-castus in Corsica:
(i) three sets of stations in three valleys of the eastern coast of Cap Corse (streams of Meria, of Misinco and of
Pietracorbara), (ii) three very small stands (tip of Cap Corse, Lavasina and south of Bastia) and (iii) twelve tiny
stations scattered over the rest of the corsican coastline. (Tabl. 1 ; Fig. 1 to 12). Phytosociological relevés were
carried out in the most important stands (Tabl. 2 to 5, 8 and 9). The complete distribution of Vitex agnus-castus
in Corsica is indicated on a small scale network map (Fig. 13).

Dans le cadre du prodrome des végétations de France, sous l’égide de la Société française de phytosociologie, l’auteur présente ici les Filipendulo ulmariae – Convolvuletea sepium : déclinaison au niveau européen, avec mise en évidence de trois alliances nouvelles (Cynancho acuti – Calystegion sepium, Filipendulo ulmariae – Chaerophyllion hirsuti et Calystegio sepium – Althaeion officinalis, plus l’Oenanthion divaricatae pour l’île de Madère), puis présentation de fiches par association connue au niveau français.

Abstract
Within the framework of the prodromous of French vegetations, under the care of French Society of plant sociology, the author presents the Filipendulo ulmariae – Convolvuletea sepium: declination at the European level (with four new alliances: Cynancho acuti – Calystegion sepium, Filipendulo ulmariae – Chaerophyllion hirsuti, Calystegio sepium – Althaeion officinalis and Oenanthion divaricatae), then presentation of cards by known association at the French level.

Une découverte inattendue en Ardèche : Murbeckiella zanonii (Ball) Rothm. (Brassicaceae)

Résumé
Murbeckiella zanonii (Ball) Rothm., espèce endémique des Apennins (Italie), a été trouvée dans la haute vallée de l’Ardèche en 2009 et 2010, à l’occasion de l’inventaire floristique du département de l’Ardèche. Il ne s’agit cependant pas de sa première mention dans ce département. Sa répartition actuelle est précisée, les données historiques discutées, le débat sur son indigénat lancé, en même temps que les perspectives d’études avancées.

Abstract
Murbeckiella zanonii ( Ball ) Rothm., endemic species of the Apennines (Italy), was found in the high valley of the Ardèche in 2009 and 2010, on the occasion of the floral inventory of the department of the Ardèche. It is not however about its first mention in this country. His current distribution is specified, historical data discussed, the debate on its native population launched, at the same time as the perspectives of studies advanced.

Oenothera ligerica, espèce nouvelle du centre et du sud de la France

Résumé
Oenothera ligerica (section Oenothera, sous-section Oenothera Dietrich et al.) est un oenothère principalement des alluvions de la Loire, de Roanne (42) à Orléans (45) et moins fréquemment du sud de la vallée du Rhône. Ses caractères spécifiques sont : l’aspect vert franc à vert foncé de la plante, la tige ponctuée de rouge, les feuilles à pilosité apprimée sur la face supérieure, subapprimée ou oblique sur la face inférieure, le bouton floral vert à vert jaunâtre (non strié de bandes rouges sur les sépales), la fleur à grande corolle (pétales longs de 20 à 30 mm) et à long hypanthium, pouvant atteindre jusqu’à 60 mm. O. ligerica appartient à l’espèce élargie O. biennis selon Dietrich et al. (1997) et partage des caractères communs avec O. suaveolens Desf. ex Persoon et O. villosa Thunb., espèces, la première dans la même aire de répartition, la deuxième en limite sud de l’aire. À cause du rachis rouge de certaines plantes, il peut être confondu avec O. rubricaulis Kleb., si on ne fait pas attention à la pubescence de l’ovaire (pubescence dense sans poils glandulaires pour O. ligerica, pubescence éparse avec poils glandulaires pour O. rubricaulis). En conclusion de l’article est donnée la diagnose.

Abstract
Oenothera ligerica (section Oenothera, subsection Oenothera) is a primrose of Loire alluviums, from Roanne (dept. 42) to Orléans (dept. 45), and is less frequent in south of Rhône valley. its specific characters are: the green aspect of the plant, the red punctuated stem, the green or red inflorescence axis, the leaves with appressed hairs at the superior face, subappressed or oblique at the inferior face; the green to yellow bud (sepals not red stripped), the large flower (petals 20-30 mm long) and the floral tube until 60 mm long. O ligerica belongs to the enlarged species O. biennis in sens of Dietrich et al. (1997) and shares characters of O. suaveolens Desf. ex Persoon and O. villosa Thunb., species in the same area. Owing to the red coloured inflorescence axis of some plants, it can be confused with O. rubricaulis Kleb., if attention is not done to the pubescence of the ovary (for O. ligerica densely pubescent without glandular hairs, for O. rubricaulis sparsely pubescent with glandular hairs). The diagnosis is given in conclusion.

Résumé
Dans le cadre du Prodrome des végétations de France, sous l’égide de la Société française de Phytosociologie, une déclinaison des Charetea, incluant les associations et les sous-associations, est effectuée au niveau européen. Un remaniement nomenclatural est proposé, les Charetalia canescentis et le Charetum virgatae sont validés et une association nouvelle, le Charetum curtae, est introduite dans le Charion fragilis. Les associations présentes en France métropolitaine sont ensuite présentées sous forme de fiches.

Abstract
Under the sponsorship of the French Society of Phytosociology, the definition of the Charetea, including the associations and subassociations, is proposed at European level, within the framework of the French Prodrome of Vegetation. A reorganisation of the nomenclature is proposed, the Charetalia canescentis and the Charetum virgatae are validated and a new association, Charetum curtae, is admitted into the Charion fragilis. Cards of the associations existing in metropolitan France are then presented.

Dans le cadre du Prodrome des végétations de France, sous l’égide de la Société française de phytosociologie, une déclinaison des Lemnetea, incluant les associations et les sous-associations, est effectuée au niveau européen. Les Hydrocharitetalia y sont intégrés, avec une seule alliance (Hydrocharition) subdivisée en trois sous-alliances : Hydrocharitenion morsus-ranae (Klika in Klika & Hadac) suball. nov., Ceratophyllenion demersi suball. nov. et Utricularienion vulgaris (H. Passarge) suball. nov., stat. nov. Les associations existant en France métropolitaine sont ensuite présentées sous forme de fiches. Une simplification syntaxonomique est proposée portant sur la réduction du nombre des associations et des sous-associations.

Abstract
Under the sponsorship of the French Society of Phytosociology, the definition of the Lemnetea, including the associations and sub-associations, is proposed at European level, within the framework of the French Prodrome of Vegetation. Dans le cadre du prodrome des végétations de France, sous l’égide de la Société française de phytosociologie, l’auteur présente ici les Nardetea strictae, avec quelques syntaxons ou noms nouveaux (Sagino nevadensis – Nardetalia strictae, Avenulo sulcatae – Nardion strictae, Hyperico richeri – Festucion paniculatae) : déclinaison au niveau européen, puis présentation de fiches par association connue au niveau français. En annexe, il définit les Serapiadetea cordigero – linguae, qui remplace les Nardetea strictae en région méditerranéenne.

Abstract
Within the framework of the prodromous of French vegetations, under the care of French Society of plant sociology, the author presents the Nardetea strictae, with some new names or syntaxa (Sagino nevadensis – Nardetalia strictae, Avenulo sulcatae – Nardion strictae, Hyperico richeri – Festucion paniculatae): declination at the European level, then presentation of cards by known association at the French level. In annex, he defines the Serapiadetea cordigero – linguae class, which takes place of Nardetea strictae in Mediterranean region.
